Subsmarine subtitles9/20/2023 ![]() ![]() If you don’t regularly use subtitles, then you can just grab them direct from one of the sites listed above whenever you do need them. Fully-automatic options can sometimes grab the wrong file, and the last thing you want to do when you sit down to watch the latest Better Call Saul is to have to start manually futzing with incorrect subtitles, instead of laughing along with the hilarious story of a lawyer gradually becoming corrupt. I like this semi-manual approach because it lets me choose the subtitle I want. Set up like this, I just launch SubsMarine, wait for it to scan my TV and movies folder, then check the subs I want, before hitting Download. The General preference pane is also the spot to tell SubsMarine to automatically scan a particular folder when the app launches. I also have it set to ignore videos with subtitles, so it doesn’t list any shows or movies that are already processed. This makes the subtitles play nice with my movie-watching app of choice, VLC. I have it set to rename subtitles to match the original video file name, and to download the subtitles to the same file. Mine is configured as in the screenshot above. It scans the Movies folder on your computer, detects any movie files, and then searches for subtitles using several of the above-listed services. SubsMarine is a $6.00 app from developer Cocoawithchurros. But we’re going to ignore all of these websites and look at an app instead. They’ll all get the job done, subtitle-finding wise. ![]() These have interfaces of varying annoyance and difficulty, and some have deliberately confusing links that trick you into clicking things you don’t want to click. The mains sites for subtitles are SubScene, Open Subtitles, Podnapisi, and Betaseries. TV show subtitles are usually available mere hours after the show broadcasts, so if you’re in the habit of downloading ripped TV shows, you won’t have to wait. These sites let you search for subtitles based on language, and for TV shows you can also specify the season and episode number. You can search for them in your preferred search engine, but better is to look at one of the main aggregation services. ![]() That issue aside, the name of this app is a rip-off of another much older - and still functioning app called SubsMarine by CocoaWithChurros, which I have been using for years. There are lots of sources for subtitles on the internet, and almost all subtitles are created for free by enthusiastic movie-lovers. I think this developer needs to be more transparent regarding why he requires an email address. Demanding a person's email address does not make it really free, because the potential user is being forced to surrender part of his/her privacy, and we all know how email addresses are traded and sold across the Internet. In my view, the app is either free - without any catches - or it is not free. Exactly how is that fair? It all just seems a bit shady to me, and does not inspire confidence in the developer. He/she claims that it is a fair deal - a "free" app for an email address. and who does not love a menu bar applet? ) probably not as a replacement, because then resizing might be a problem, but alongside? but that's a luxury.Ĭonsidering that this app is supposedly free, why does the developer require an email address before allowing someone to download it? Exactly what are his/her intentions with harvesting email addresses? Is he/she then going to hound the downloader to purchase some of his/her commercial apps? if the app already utilizes the cover image why not have the user be able to drag and drop it? ability to drop more than one movie file and get results separated visually depending on the file dropped. after getting the search results drag and drop a sub from the list to a local folder would save a few clicks ![]() the app automatically renames files as the movie file to be added by movie Superb app! To use this, add the following text to your autoexec.cfg file: The difference may not be immediately noticeable like something like finding your best CS:GO crosshair would be, but once you’ve added it, you’ll never go back. This command clears enemy blood from walls, making it easier to see any other enemies lined up against the wall. The Clear Decals bind is a small optimization, and you won’t notice how effective it is. To use the Mouse Wheel Jump bind, place this into your autoexec.cfg file:īind mwheelup +jump bind mwheeldown +jump 2. For most players though, this is still useful. If your mouse wheel is sensitive, you could accidentally jump in the middle of a firefight and get yourself killed. The only potential negative to this is accidental scrolling. It might only be a millisecond, but it could be the difference between life and death. In a gunfight, it’s also much faster to jump behind cover. This makes it much easier to bunny hop, allowing you to move across the map faster. The Mouse Wheel Jump bind removes jumping from your spacebar, binding it to your mouse wheel. His two best known works are Simple Justice, considered the definitive account of the U.S. ![]() Richard Kluger is an American social historian and novelist who, after working as a New York journalist and publishing executive, turned in mid-career to writing books that have won wide critical acclaim. In The Sheriff of Nottingham, Kluger has woven an engrossing medieval tapestry that transports the reader beyond the mists of time and legend to witness the struggle of a singular character seeking to act honorably in a time ruled by savage impulse and civil uproar. The boys are treated with respect and kindness by the sheriff and his family until a year later when King John thunders into the castle courtyard at the head of his entourage and, in a fury over a new Welsh uprising, roars at Philip, “Hang the hostages – hang them all – and at once!” How Sheriff Mark responds to this grim command forms the moral core of the novel. Thirty sons of Welsh warlords are consigned to Philip’s castle as royal hostages on the orders of the king to ensure that their volatile fathers behave themselves back in chronically rebellious Wales. Storytelling at its most gripping comes in the novel’s powerfully moving centerpiece. Here are dark intrigue and adroit statecraft, hand-to-hand combat and sharp wits in collision, an avaricious ruler attempting to seduce his sheriff’s wife on Christmas night, and the hatching of the Magna Carta itself at Nottingham Castle one fine September eve in 1213 (along with the reasons why Philip Mark is specifically mentioned in that immortal document). In vital, dramatic colors, Kluger paints a panorama of that England at the dawn of modernity and its principal players and events. Posted to Nottinghamshire in 1208 as the crown’s chief law officer, he is answerable only to King John himself, a monarch who has been handed down to posterity – perhaps not altogether fairly – as an unredeemed tyrant presiding over a tumultuous age. Philip Mark, a soldier of fortune from Touraine in the heart of France and actually cited by name in the text of the Magna Carta as objectionable to the king’s barons, is a complex figure, a man with a heart, a conscience, and deft political instincts. Through a fusion of art and documented fact, Kluger portrays a far different sheriff. ![]() Now, with his novel, The Sheriff of Nottingham, Richard Kluger turns the timeless tale on its head in a vivid, compassionate narrative based upon authentic and quite startling history. He remains to this day, fed by Hollywood versions of the legend, the hateful, impotent foil to that celebrated bowman, Robin Hood. More than 135 United Nations member countries recognize Palestine as an independent state, but Israel and some other countries, including the United States, don’t make this distinction. However, control over this region is a complex and evolving situation. There is no international consensus concerning the borders, and many areas claimed by Palestinians have been occupied by Israelis for years.
